Video Gaming at GottaCon 2010

Today we announce our electronic gaming line-up planned for GottaCon 2010. Below please find a list of game systems, games and tournaments planned for GottaCon 2010, which will be held February 5th to 7th, 2010 at Pearkes arena in Victoria BC (3100 Tillicum Road).

This year casual play on all GottaCon provided computers and consoles will be free with purchase to the convention. All tournaments will have a small entry fee. Entry fees will be listed in tickets. Tickets cost $1.00 each and can be purchased at the GottaCon Event registration desk (Near front entrance to convention).

This year we are pleased to announce that Silver City Theatre and Future Shop are our major sponsors for the video gaming area. Both of these fantastic companies have provided substantial support in the way of prizes. Events sponsored by them are noted below.

First let’s start with the Local Area Network (LAN) we have planned and the games and tournaments available.

GottaCon will host a LAN that will be able to connect up to 40 computers. Six to eight computer systems with games will be provided by Stain Internet Café with an additional one or two provided by GottaCon Conventions. These stations will be considered public stations and attendees will be able to use them for casual play at no charge. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own systems and hook up to our LAN at no extra cost.

On the LAN we will be hosting the following scheduled tournaments:

Counter-Strike Source Deathmatch Tournament
Day: Friday
Time: 8:00PM
Cost: 2 tickets
This tournament will be randomly made teams facing randomly made teams, with a final round of everyone vs. everyone. To advance through the rounds rack up the most kills against everyone else. Those with the least amount will be eliminated. A respawn time frame will be put in place allowing players to re-enter the tournament. Prizes for top players.

Warcraft III Defense of the Ancients (DotA) Tournament
Day: Saturday
Time: Noon
Cost: 2 tickets per team member
This tournament will be comprised of three player teams facing off for prizes and glory in this ever popular format. Prizes for top team.

Left 4 Dead: 2 Team survival Challenge
Day: Saturday
Time: 8:00PM
Cost: 2 ticket per team member

Grab three friends and try to make it as far as possible against the zombie hordes. Teams that go the distance will win prizes. A respawn time frame will be put in place allowing teams to re-enter the tournament. WARNING: THIS GAME IS RATED MATURE FOR BLOOD AND VIOLENCE AS WELL AS MATURE CONTENT

If interest levels are high enough in other games, tournaments may be scheduled with prize pools provided by GottaCon. When tournaments are not underway you can play your favourite games using Stain’s systems or use your own system at no cost. Everything you need to play on Stain’s system will be provided.

Console games will be provided and run by Evo Games (http://www.evogaming.ca). Evo Games, a new gaming centre based out of Langford, will be teaming up with GottaCon to provide a MASSIVE selection of video games and tournaments at their booth. Evo will be setting up gaming stations which will consist of 16 Xbox 360’s, two to four PS3s and one Wii.

In addition to Evo Games, Sony PlayStation will be back and setting up a booth on Saturday where they will show off their PlayStation 3 and PSPs. Check them out as there may be some swag in it for you!

Major Video Game Events:

Street Fighter 4 at Silver City Cinema 2 – Sponsored by Silver City
Day: Saturday
Time: 9:00am to Noon
Cost: 5 Tickets
On Saturday February 6th between 9:00am and noon come over to Silver City Victoria in Cinema #2 to take part in or watch the largest (screen size) fighting tournament to hit Victoria. Tell your friend, bring them out and then crush their dreams with larger than life fists!

Players will face off against randomly selected opponents with similar win/loss records in a double elimination tournament; Lose twice you are out.

- First place prize: 2 hours free at Silver City Victoria for you and 7 friends to play whatever Xbox 360 games you bring with you. Estimated value $200
- Second place prize: 2 passes to Famous Player movie theatres

Halo 3 - 3 vs. 3 Teams Tournament – Sponsored by Future Shop
Day: Saturday
Time: 8:00PM
Team Size: 3 Players
Cost: 5 tickets per team member
This tournament will be a 3v3 format. You will need to work together in order to prevail. Weapon spawns will be altered from default as per Evo Gaming guidelines. This Tournament is a double elimination format ensuring that if you lose a match you will have an opportunity to regain your footing and come back victorious. Players will need to organize into 3v3 format. If a player who wants to participate does not have a teammate they can partner up with random gamers who also don’t have a teammate.

Prizes: Determined by attendance but will have at least $200 in prizes for top two teams.

DJ Hero Spin-off at Silver City Cinema 2 – Sponsored by Silver City
Day: Sunday
Time: 9:00am to Noon
Cost: 5 Tickets
On Sunday February 7th between 9:00am and noon come over to Silver City Victoria in Cinema #2 to take part in or watch/listen to the top DJ Hero DJs spin some serious tracks.

Players will perform a two song set where they will be scored by a panel of judges on performance, costume and overall score.

- First place prize: 2 hours free at Silver City Victoria for you and 7 friends to play whatever Xbox 360 games you bring with you. Estimated value $200
- Second place prize: 2 passes to Famous Player movie theatres

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 – 4 vs. 4 Teams Tournament – Sponsored by Future Shop
Day: Sunday
Time: 1:00PM
Team Size: 4 Players
Cost: 5 tickets per team member
Find 3 friends and gear up for the battlefield in the most anticipated game of the year. This tournament will be a 4v4 format and stress team tactics and skill. It will be a double elimination tournament. Teams will not be counted out until their second loss. The game mode and load out selection will all be based on EGL guidelines. If a player who wants to participate does not have a teammate they can partner up with random gamers who also don’t have a teammate.

Prizes: Determined by attendance but will have at least $200 in prizes for top two teams.

Players will face off against randomly selected opponents with similar win/loss records in a double elimination tournament; Lose twice you are out.

Gears of War 2 – 2 vs. 2 Teams Tournament
Day: Friday
Time: 9:00PM
Cost: 5 tickets per team member
Battle it out in futuristic style in Gears of War 2. This tournament will be a 2v2 format emphasizing a wingman style tactics game. This Tournament is a double elimination format ensuring that if you lose a match you will have an opportunity to regain your footing and come back victorious. Prizes will be awarded to top teams.

Cost: 5 tickets per team member
Prepare to Drop!! Your 2 man team will descend into the city to fight the Convenent threat. Survive for 20 minutes and achieve the highest score to win. Team work and skill are your best weapons! Prizes to top team.

Gears of War Horde
Day: Saturday
Time: 2:00PM
Cost: 5 tickets
The planet Sera is in a state of despair as the Locust Horde launches a devastating attack against humanity! Your 2 man team must repel the Locust hoard and survive 20 minutes and live to tell! Prizes to top team.

Left 4 Dead 2 – Co-Op Survival
Day: Saturday
Time: 4:00PM
Cost: 5 tickets per team member (2 player team minimum)
Prepare to face off against the zombie hoard and survive 20 minutes and achieve a top score! It’s a no holds barred race to survive and all manner of weapons will be at your zombie killing disposal. Prizes to top team. WARNING: THIS GAME IS RATED MATURE FOR BLOOD AND VIOLENCE AS WELL AS MATURE CONTENT

Forza 3
Day: Saturday
Time: 6:00PM
Cost: 5 tickets
Hop in the driver’s seat of your car of choice and face off against other players in this double elimination tournament. Last two to cross the finish line receive a loss. Lose twice you are eliminated. Prizes to top player.

In addition to the tournaments mentioned above their will be tons of other titles available for free game play. There is a one hour limit on a console station (must move to another station), general gaming stations will be limited during tournament times.
